'Hexed' was originally nothing more than an idea back in February 2004. However, in August 2004 we found out about the First Light initiative and considered applying. With help from a friendly youth-worker, Gavin pitched the idea to a company called Media Education, who took on the project as a single ten-minute short film. First Light received our application for funding in October, and in December the project was given the go-ahead.

After several months of in-depth planning by the production team and Media Education, auditions were held at Corstorphine Youth Centre, which was also where the main set for the film was to be built. With a cast selected, a script written and a set constructed, the film was shot during the first week of July 2005, a tiring but enjoyable week for all concerned. Then the film was edited by some of the young people involved, a process which took considerably longer than anticipated, spanning six weeks. However, the film was completed on time and premiered in the screening room of the Scotsman Hotel on the 25th of August 2005.

The end result is Beyond Studios' first major film production: a fun, short fantasy film with seventy-four visual effects shots, an awesome original soundtrack and a fantastic acting cast of nine.

Two months after the premiere, four of the Beyond Studios Team had the privilege of attending the annual YoungEdinburgh Awards. We were short-listed for 'Hexed' under the Visual and Performing Arts category. Unfortunately we didn't win, but we still feel really proud to say that we were an official short-listed nominee!
